I already stumbled across tumblr.com a few years ago, but never knew what to do with another microblogging platform...
But in the last few weeks I've found a few nice tumblr websites, to get the idea behind it.
The clean and clear look of it make you focus on the pictures, statements or videos posted.
There is nothing else that drags your attention away, and that underlines the message of the post.
I discovered Theophilus London's tumblr account last summer and it was quite nice to get an idea of the recordings of his album in Stockholm and literally becoming a part of it:
Exhibit A: Mark Ronson on the keys obviously for THIS
It seems to be an usual habit to put up the intention of the tumblr page right into the title, to maintain the clear and straight forward message of the platform.
Other nice tumblr pages I've found during the last few months were "Kanye + Comics", "Eye on Springfield" and "Chicks with Buscemi Eyes". The last two have not that much to do with music (rather than with eyes), but they are all at least as awesome as Mr. London's tumblr account (OR Scott Mescudi's account, too!!):
My newest discovery is a rapper with the moniker Childish Gambino. He seems to have a comparable background as Drake, with all that actingstuff and one can clearly hear influences from Drizzy and Weezy in hisrhymes. But hey! Isn't everybody influenced by some former musicians?! So you can probably track back every musician's influence on the world to a chick named "Lucy"...
Whatever:
First track I've heard from Mr Glover was a cover version of Kanye's humongous track "All of the Lights":
I was pretty much blown away by the emotions Gambino managed to transfer into the song, creating his very own version!
So I threw everymixtape I could find onto my iPhone which ended up in a bit of a mess. I was a bit disappointed of hearing ANOTHER Lil' Wayne biter...
But then I gave it a few more spins and especially his EP seems to be quite nice.
First official video with punchlines like "I run this b#tch, you're just a dog walker" or more thoughtful stuff like "You get sloppy drunk, I stay whiskey neat!"
In the accoustic version in his hotel room (which reminds me of the young J.Cole btw) he manages to transfer very different emotions into the same song, AGAIN:
To sum up: What I have witnessed until now is pure greatness! I expect more to come!
...alright, I admit that it's NOT 3AM in the morning while writing this post (unless I would be residing at the eastcoast of the Caspian Sea, which I am unfortunately not), BUT: I just threw together my perfect 3AM-trippin-home-from-a-club-on-a-cold-wasted-night-playlist on my iPhone (author-approved)! Experience (by) yourself:
...if you don't like happy endings you should cut out the last two tracks! Big up to youtube for exceptionally having ALL songs I wanted to post in stock!
...I am still thinkin that the most creative and most touching music arises from a melancholic prevailing mood...
First I wanted to write an entry about the Barcelona Airport...Why? Simply because I can... plus I stumbled over an old Jay-Z record reading a very interesting article in the gossippushing Complex magazine:
(skip to 1:23 ! Seeing is believing!) Is it me, or did Mr. Shawn Carter work at the airport at that time, sportin their uniform? Exhibit of his gang:
My dearest Youtube (hate/love relationship since day one) then suggested me to watch one of these Styles P freestyles over the Feelin it beat. That made me getting stuck with all these tons of freestyles he threw up on youtube. It seems like dude always got the right choice of beats. Comparable to the ThorntonBrothers. Therefor I will end this post with a minor major collection of song sketches from Paniro the Ghost, 2nd best third of the LOX:
This is blogentry is just for me and myself, because I like Styles' flow and these instrumentals... an ear-pleasing experience! :-)
